New Balance 475's here!
I can only run in circles currently, but we have an eliptical as well.

When you run this much, you simply have to eat a ton of food to live. It's not so easy to stop the eating once you stop the running though. I'm about 50 lbs over my running weight. I keep trying to start back up with the running but it's rough picking that back up after a few years off.

Yeah, I got shin splints and stress fractures so bad I could barely walk. I tried for a few months to keep in shape through pool workouts, but smelling like chlorine got old after a while and I gave that up and took up occasional mountain biking. While my excercise dropped off from running around 100 miles a week, to almost nothing instantly, my eating habits stayed the same. It was not uncommon for me to eat two entire dominos large pizzas by myself for dinner (worked there at the time, so pizza was free). You just can't keep eating like a horse and I gained 30-40 pounds in one year. Since then, I've been adding 5 pounds a year, hence where I'm at now. My wife told me she'd support my brewing hobby & ambitions (competitions, possible future career) 100%, but only if I take care of myself, so I'm trying to live up to my end of the bargain.

I'm pretty focused, but I appreciate all the feedback from you and others. It's good to hear success stories. I hope the "something amazing" is similar to :unicornrainbow:

Got a pair of Brooks. Not sure the model, but I'm liking them a lot so far. Man, running shoes have come a long way since the late 90's.

I'm in a similar boat. In college (then the Army), I was in great shape, even ran the Marine Corps Marathon twice ('85 & '86).
Got out of the Army in '90, got a job as a software engineer, [stopped exercising] and slowly but steadily put on 90 lbs in those 22 yrs.

I fucked up my knee a few yrs ago and that didn't help.

[A few weeks ago] i started walking 3 miles at lunchtime a couple-three times a week.
My goal is to try to take 80 lbs off in the next 2yrs. I really want to run but right now the stress is too much and my knee is too weak. I figure I'll be able to start running about 25 lbs from now.

I might hop on this train. I recently got my road bike back in good condition (I missed that thing, riding my MTB around just wasn't the same.) I just took a job in network support, so I should probably pile on some active hobbies to offset the beer I drink and the sitting around I do.

That picture made me laugh. Unfortunately, I resemble fat Tom Hanks more than Forest Gump at this point. Trying to get back to Gump!

I've run four out of the last five days with my run last night being the best so far. Still doing 1.8 miles, but last night I did it at a 9:30 mile pace which is 30 seconds faster than my other runs. I actually had a moment or two during the run where it felt like I was getting my stride back.

I too was in the over-weight category. Retired from the USAF in 2004 weighing ~145, wearing a 32" waist pant, when I got on the scale after last years NHC, I was a whopping 190. That's when I made the decision to buy the Insanity program from the infommercial. Started Insanity on Sept. 19th, and in the 9 weeks of the program, I lost 25lbs, and 10% body fat....it's a ball busting work-out....but well worth it in my opinion.

Gonna start it up again 1st of March, trying to get to the 160, and 10-12%BF range.

Cheers all!!
