Yeah sorry, every maker can out a bad car but my extensive dealing with Fords in the family has lead me to feel they are one of the worst when it comes to turning out quality long lasting cars.

I have had minor little problems out of every car I have owned, just the stuff you expect like a sensor going out. I have had one major problem with a non Ford brand car and that was a Honda motor that failed at low mileage. Every single Ford I or any member of my family has owned, and there have been many, has had a major problem . Transmissions failing at well under 100k miles, Torque converters shearing off bolts, valve train failure at under 100k miles, accessory components (all of them) shearing off the the front of the block, poorly or under designed components such as exhaust studs that failed. Some of them are now well known failure points like the exhaust manifold studs on the 2V 4.6 motors.

I would not ever buy a Ford product if I had a choice. Both of the ones I currently own were deals where I purchased them from a friend or family member after they had given up on them. They were really deals I could not pass on as I have the ability of repairing and replacing things myself rather than pay a shop unlike some of my family members. Things like the free Taurus that was on its second factory new transmission at 80k miles. My Mother was done with it and just gave it to me when I sold off my Mustang.

I know that every one makes a lemon every once in a while. I know that every one makes good cars that remain reliable for many miles. All the reports do not lie though and there are many many reports out there where Ford consistently falls short on the owner rankings and reliability compared to several other makes. They do make a tough truck that works and sells well but I have had some serious problems out of a 5.4 F150 4x4 as well.

I am primarily a Honda fan although I have had great luck with Mazda as well. I will never own another VW product as well. I loved the power plants in the three VW's I owned but the trim, accessory, and body fit/finish was absolutely horrid on all of them. They literally fell apart around those great motors.

This is where some car knowledge comes in handy. My f150 rolls a straight 6-300. One of Fords toughest, most durable motors built. Just like the chevy 350, they all have issues with certain areas, so unless you know just what your looking for, it can be a PITA.
I just had to put a trans in my truck, but hey, first one in 160k miles. Any vehicle that gets over 125k is going to need some parts repaired no matter what make.
I have several friends with 5.0 mustangs and have very few problems, however, most of them/us like to tweek them a little for that little extra oompf. As for a Tore-ass (Taurus), i dont thik i would ever own one. Im not fond of the body style, and they are fairly cheaply made. Its just like a cavilier, theyre cheap to make, but the quality reflects that.
Im not a big fan of honda, theyre ridgline drive me bonkers. Theyre cars are nice for city driving mileage, but couldnt hold up with what i need a vehicle for.
Ford=Mazda and VW=Porsche, tear apart a porshce and you'll see a lot of VW parts.

That straight 6 is virtually indestructible, I would agree. Chevy/GMC made a mean one too.

Ford is a share holder in Mazda but Mazda is a separate company. They parts share and now platform share but they have done that for years. Certainly no where near as tied together as say Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury or Honda and Acura for that mater.

The B series line of Mazda trucks were just rebadged Rangers but the Escort GT and Mercury Tracer were just redone Mazda 323/Protoge cars with the 1.8l BP Mazda motor that was also found slightly revised in the 94 and up Mazda Miata. Every maker out there does this for the most part. One of the last holdouts on it, Honda, started years ago with rebadged Izuzu's to get a sportute in the line up.

That Ford straight six is great but a 1/2 ton straight six Ford is not going to pull a 24 foot race trailer comfortably and safely. Over all the 5.4 has been a good motor in the truck but it has had some serious electrical issues that never fail to annoy as they often happed the week before a out of town race.

I have a Tribute and I think the Tribute and the Escape come of the same line.

I consider the platform sharing close enough. Although they don't share engines in the Tributes case and the reason I went that route, that and it was cheaper, looked better and got better gas mileage.

Funny, I interviewed for a job at Honda R & D last year... the guys who interviewed me were making fun of the Ridgeline.

Guy #1 "... you know for the car and truck line..."
Guy #2 "We make a truck?"
Guy #1 confused look on his face "Yeah, the Ridgeline..."
Guy #2 "Like I said, we make a truck?"
