There's a Wal-Mart supercenter where I live. Right after it opened, the local mom&pop hardware store closed. Then the local Western Auto. For a time, the woman that ran the Western Auto worked at that Wal-Mart, and believe it or not, her father, the owner of the Western Auto, sold Wal-Mart the land that they used to build their store on. He cashed in a bit but then had to close his store from the competition.

Years ago, we heard that the Wal-Mart meat cutters wanted to join the union. About a month later, the meat department was closed. You can still see all of the meat cutting equipment behind the doors, but no one works there anymore. Now the meat is from a supplier.

I don't like Wal-Mart either, but for most items we no longer have a choice.

I try not to buy anything from them either. The only thing I get there religiously is baby formula and diapers, that is if they are cheaper. I do get food from the Sam's Club too. I usually shop in Target though because the atmosphere is better (employees, layout, products, etc.).

I am in 100% agreement with TimC, well put!

A couple nights ago i caught a glimpse of a walmart show on history or discovery channel, i was jettin out so didnt catch it all but when Wally world originally started, it was totally different. 'Ol wally would be rolling in his grave if he knew how his company turned out. he stood for lower prices on good products, not cheap prices on chitty products. He also was a hunter like me, and believed in firearms for sportsmen, several wal-marts have done away totally with anything to do with firearms/ammo/shooting sports.
Luckily the wally world in the town next to us still carries guns and ammo, the gun prices are fairly competitive, but not my quality. The only thing i by there is bulk shotgun ammo for sporting clays. Oh and i got a smokin deal on my RCA TV there last fall.

Totally agree on the employees. Youd think they would put someone who knows something about sports in the sporting goods area not womens personals. Friendly in walmart, is that possible? I guess its better than having the streets full of bums rattling cans for change.

Lets just be clear - Americans are not the only ones keeping China in a cycle of making poor products. But you better belive we are the only ones who will stand up and say something. And once we did, China threatened to pull their money out of our economy. Bullshit. Anyway, China CAN make good products, I agree. But not everything made in China currently is a crappy product. It seems to me that most people only notice that something is made in China when it breaks. Not that I am pro China. And Travis, you have to admit that part of the reason goods made in the US are so high is because of Unions. I dislike Unions to an extent. I am all for a fair wage and workers rights, but a union is basically like a monopoly on work in one given job. So if the workers just want to squeeze more out of the bosses ... hey its strike time. Flufah to that.

Now as far as Wal-mart shutting local businesses down, I don't buy that 100%. As a retailer there is a lot you can do to go the extra mile for your customer that Wally World won't do. You can source new suppliers of your products. You can sell things that Wall Mart doesnt. I know it is hard, but customers will buy from you even if you are more expensive than wall mart becasue you have great serivce, or you have a sweet return policy. Not saying that Wal Mart wont HURT your sales, but I dont think it will put anyone out of business.

Yeah but that is not because they dont want to sellyou guns, that is pressure from the PTA didlo-shoving stay-at-home moms who think that because their kids friend got shot with a gun, that getting rid of guns is the answer.

You hear that story recently out of Canada where some kid got stabbed at school? Well one of their lawmakers up there wants to ban weapons 100%. Now, you would naturally think he wants to get rid of knives at school. No. A total BAN of guns in Canada. That is the logic of the parents in this day and age. Banning tag from playgrounds, banning saggy pants ... Jesus man ...

Anyone else notice the repetitive nature of the posts in these argument fueled threads? Read one page, you've read them all. a lot of regurgitated points of view and....uh ....I'll just go away now....

I just ran several hash functions on each page of content, and they are not the same.

Ahem.
