It is a world wide unorganized club. Google them. I'm sure everybody has a group of them nearby. They advertise themselves as a drinking club with a running problem. It is a running game with various beer stops along the way. Our local meets at a restaurant or bar and goes for an hr to hr and a half hash run (complete with beer stops) and then gathers back at the restaurant/bar for dinner.

It is great for exercise, entertainment, and just getting out of a rut.

This is a great way to get into running. I hate running, but love beer and assorted debauchery, and need exercise. Last night my local h3 had their lampshade run through, and around downtown. Afterwards during religion we got a visit by the cops, who where sorta cool and told us to scram. Great fun. I jogged/walked it, and including walking home covered about 4.5 miles. I ache today, but its the most fun I've had while exercising.

Still at it. Been a while since I visited the forum, but thought I'd give an update. Went through a period of IT band issues then as soon as I got that resolved, my hip flexor muscles started killing me. I've worked through that and am now fairly healthy. Running every other day about three miles. Pace has picked up and is now usually between 8:00 and 8:15 per mile. Feeling good, still loosing weight although slower now. I've lost right at 30 pounds since the beginning of the year. My goal is to loose another 15 by Spring. Running sure will be easier this fall when it cools down a bit...

Hope all you other harriers are doing well!

I'm juuuuuuust about at the end of week 7 of C25K, and I've pretty much decided I'm a runner now. The crazy soreness issues got worked out when the little lady taught me how to stretch correctly (she's a dancer and knows way more about muscle anatomy than just about anyone I've ever talked to.) Lately I'm fine, as long as I stay away from dairy products, but since I'm on a mostly paleo diet that isn't much of a problem. The last few runs have given me some soreness issues, but yesterdays was nothing short of fantastic. 25 minutes with no pain, just pounding feet and pumping blood.

Looking into buying my first pair of actual running shoes to celebrate once I hit week 8, and I'm also looking into trail running as well as local charity runs and stuff. Next step, getting in shape for bike touring...I'm hoping to do some riding around to different breweries here in the near future. Just gotta keep getting my ass into shape!

Good job on keeping up with it! It's really worth the trouble, if you ask me.

Sounds like she shouldn't have any problem holding your *attention*. Not a runner myself, just not built for it (physically or mentally). Flat feet, big guy (not a fat ass though), and prone to finding running boring. I'm much happier on a bike, faster pace, more alert, able to coast, less pounding on the feet and shins... More power to you though!

Yeah, I actually started on a bike myself. Wanted to lose weight, and still do, and I just didn't think the bike would do it for me unless I was willing to put in a lot more time. Hell, half the reason I started running is to get my ass in shape for bike touring...I wanna ride up to Colorado next summer and visit Ska and Left Hand if possible, among other breweries/brewpubs.

I've been playing Zombies, Run! for the last two weeks, and I'm really digging it. It's a good way to get myself in gear and make myself push a little harder when I run. Plus, with the right soundtrack, it's like being in a god damn movie.

I started doing this "mash running" recently. As much as I hate running, especially while I am running, it has lessened the beer gut. The wife is generally more OK with the kegerator and kegerator consumption levels. Anyone else "mash run"?

Mash running is a good idea. I might have to give that a try next brewday. I'm still running. Actually have picked up the frequency a bit and am averaging four times a week now. Had my longest run yet on Sunday when I did 6.2 miles in 51:30. Did 4.0 last night in 32.05. Have had a few 3.0 mile runs where I've been averaging a 7:30 pace. I feel noticiably better now and can tell my body is leaning out and muscles and joints getting back into shape. My metabolism has really picked back up and I'm eating more now that I've quit dieting alltogether. It's wierd, I'm getting thinner, but at the same time building and toning muscle so my weight loss has flat lined. Still down right at 30 pounds from the beggining of the year, and in the 192 range. Want to get down to 175, but that's either going to take a lot more miles or implementing some form of dieting again.

On a side note, I did my first two batches of beer this past weekend in more than six months. Damn it felt good to brew again.

Cheers, and keep running!

I run and play sports just so I can drink beer. Knowing that I am getting old and will have to give up Soccer and Tennis soon, is also the motivation. 5 days a week of running and weight lifting. Soccer, and Tennis and coaching through-out the week.

It is my drive to be able to brew and enjoy the great beers in this country of ours!
