Re: 1 Day, no tobacco, no stink, very happy

Cold turkey used to suck, but like I said, I don't really notice much anymore. Strangely enough, my teeth hurt, which I think I unconsciously grit and grind them. Prolly pick up a pack of gum and try to defeat that portion of it, but so far I'm good. The real test will be tonight when I go to work, because all my work friends are pretty much smokers.

I think after you quit a few times you just know what works for you and what doesn't, what causes you to relapse and what helps you out. I've tried just about everything under the sun over 10+ of trying to quit & 3 of those "successful" (90+ days in my book) - I know for a fact that patches are worthless to me, but I know they help others, same with the gum. Day 2 is almost done, and I have yet to have the desire to have a cigarette. The withdrawals & those brief trigger urges are annoying but I don't feel the need to subside them with a smoke; I pretty much ignore them, the lozenges keep them pretty minimal anyways.

Glad to hear that you guys are holding up well also. Whatever works for you, keep doin' it.

I think what I'll do is make a deal with myself....90 days smoke free means an upgrade to my brewing system. I'll probably be able to afford it just from not being a smoker anymore, lol.

Cheers to all that are quitting!

As a former smoker, I want to let you know that falling off the wagon once isn't falling off forever. Get back on the wagon. Don't beat yourself up. You will look back at the accomplishment one day and smile.

For me, smoking was a habit, and a ritual. It took behavioral change. Personal behavioral change is tough shit. I wish you all the best.

PS, a friend tried hypnosis. It worked for him. Where I sometimes get antsy and irritated sometimes when i smell smoke, it doesn't bother him at all. he was re-programmed.

Anyone ever see the movie "Cracking Up"? Jerry Lewis' character was trying to quit smoking and everytime he would light up, Dick Butkus would show up and punch him. About the only good thing about that movie that I remember.

I'll be quitting, yet again, after today. I too am one who would end up either bumming one off of someone or buying a pack while drinking then finish the pack 'cause I wouldn't want to waste them. I've quit before, for a couple/few months, and I can remember how much clearer I was able to think, and even see. Things just looked more vivid. I've tried the e-cig and the patch. the e-cig for me was helpful, but the patch was easier for me. But I'm thinking that perhaps the hypnosis route might be the best for me. I just need to get my lazy ass to make the appointment.
With a pack of cigs at $10+ and smoking a pack + a day, the savings would mount pretty quickly.

So we should be calling Code? I'm a little afraid of what he'd re-program me to do.
