Bring the Volvo, leave the smokes and we'll get along fine. Seriously, locals treat smokers like they have the plague...

Welcome to town. Corvallis is sort of quiet but the homebrew, as well as all other home based crafts are huge here. Fortunately, we are between Eugene and Portland so all the great rockfunkpunk bands make it through here.

For a small town we have three breweries, Block 15 (my fave), Oregon Trail (the oldest), Flat Tail Brewing (newest).
PFC BN Army - Tactical Hop Command
Fermenting - Kolsch, Blonde Ale
Kegged: Flanders Brown

Well, if I tell them that my tobacco use is part of my heritage as a minority (Appalachian-American), I can pull the political correctness card and everyone will sing Kumbaya  .

Does the McMenamins also brew or do they just get their beer from another one of their breweries?

Coal mining is in my family heritage but I don't plan on dieing of black lung...

McMenamins doesn't brew here in town. I think the beer here is brewed in Portland. I really like McMenamins as a business but their beer is mostly just OK.

Sorry man, I didn't mean to start off on a downer. I hope to see you around some time. I am totally envious that you are in the Fermentation science program. I almost got laid off a couple of years back and that program was my back-up plan.

Brew Strong!

Meister - both of my kids are Ducks and most of my savings, current wages and a good part of my future several years of income is going to pay for their edumacation.

Take a 30 minute drive south to Eugene if you can - they are nice people too, regardless what they say in Corvallis.

I enjoy the short time I spend every year between Portland and Eugene - especially Pinot Noir wine country around Dundee.

Have a blast and study hard - college is as little or as much as you make of it.

Aloha - and good to see you posting back here every now and then again. My older son just turned 21 (and was shut out of Oakland NHC like you were), my younger son will be 20 next March.

I'm afraid that my car will be destroyed by ecoterrorists if I make the trip.

In all seriousness though, I'm sure I'll be exploring this area quite a bit and can make it down there at some point, but they need to come up here for the civil war. :D
