Denver

Tue Feb 26, 2008 2:08 pm

So, I found out that I'm going to be in Denver for a few days in May for a wedding. I figure I'll really only have an opportunity to go to maybe one or two beer places while I'm there.

Any recommendations?

I'm sure there are some Denver residents that can chime in .. but when I was out there:

Bull and Bush, Wyncoop, Breckenridge, Rock Bottom were all very good

there is also a cool used bookstore near Wyncoop
On tap 1: Dry Irish
On tap 2: El Jefeweizen
On tap 3: Vienna
kegged: Rye Amber, Belgian Dark Strong, CYBI Mirror Pond, Irish Red, RIS
lagering: Vienna, Helles, Cream Ale, CAP

I visited Wynkoop, Rock Bottom and Breckenridge near the ball park. Great brewpubs everywhere in Colorado. If it weren't for the snow, I could live there.

I went to Bull and Bush once and had two huge butter bombs, the pilsner and Man Beer IPA. Blech. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it may not be a regular problem with those beers, but honestly, it may be a while before I make it back there.

If I could only go to two places in the Metro area, it would probably be Golden City (great beer, great bare bones atmosphere) and Great Divide on a day when they have a cask on, and maybe a tour.

How's Falling Rock? I'm thinking we could maybe hit that up before we go to the airport...

Absolutly check the falling Rock. Not a brewery but well worth a stop in. I'm w/ Chris, if you can make it out to Golden check out Golden City. I prefer the Rock Bottom out in Englewood myself. It's right off of I-25 on County Line Road. the brewer there is Rick Abitbol. He's an old homebrewer and is always willing to show you around if he's there. I think he's the only brewer there so if you make it in before 3 he's sure to be there...on the week days anyway. Boulder is also just a short trip away, w/ the likes of Avery, Boulder Beer, Twisted Pine, and The Walnut (very first rock bottom). My personal fav there is Twisted Pine. It's a small place w/ only a tasting room and they love homebrewers as well. The brewhouse is right behind the bar and the head brewer...I can't remember his name...but he's a young guy and was a crazy homebrewer before he started there.

Anyway, if you are going to be in town for a few days, send me a PM and i'll give you a way to get in touch

Cheers,
