Last Wednesday I had to put off brewing for a day because we had blowing snow and a minus 20° wind chill. Brrrrrrr!
Here it is exactly one week later and almost 60°! I didn't even have to put my shoes on to go take the garbage can to the curb. I am brewing today to take advantage of the weather before the next blizzard hits this weekend. It's amazing how drastic the weather changes can be out here on the plains.
Folks in California and such places wonder why us folks here on the high plains talk about weather so much. It's because there is always something happening. Weather on the left coast is boring. Just gentle shifts in temperature and moisture compared to single day 60° temperature swings, drought in the summer, floods in the spring. Minus 25° temps in the winter and 120°+ temps in the summer. When you look at "averages" of our weather conditions, the weather here is quite pleasant. However, we seldom get an "average" day, it always seems to be at some extreme.
All that said, I love the climate here! It's always interesting. Does that make me wierd?
