Holy crap, it took mfischer2 a whole 2 minutes to get 3 of the four. Since all four correct answers are on the first page of this thread, I might as well reveal them:

Secretariat (just a fucking freak of an animal) and the 1980 US hockey team (probably the most globally significant athletic competition ever played) were by far the easiest. The Mary Lou Retton (perfect 10) call was impressive as well.

Then Bub comes in with the Magic Johnson (the HIV) blast...well done. That one took me forever to get.

Well done BN. I'm pretty impressed.

I found it to be OJ, not Magic. I probably can't find my source but that makes sense to me.
