There's only two things you need to know about cats to get on with or control them:

1. Their gonads need to be removed.
2. They will only respect you if you treat them the same way they treat you.

If a cat ignores you, ignore it or torment it . If a cat torments you, torment it back or ignore it. If a cat jumps up into your lap, give it attention (assuming you are not making a point of tormenting or ignoring it at the time to gain back the upper hand). You can play rough with a cat as long as you don't hurt it.

I used to drive my wife insane following these rules, as it even though it appeared at times I was being nasty to the cat, she could not work out why it always came to me for attention. Follow these simple rules and a house trained cat makes a great pet.

Too true. That's how I kept myself happy with having cats. You don't have to pay attention to them all the time. They're like the slutty girl that you would "play with" but not date. Fun when you need it, gone when you don't.
