Mostly everybody just wants to talk about it and complain about how things must change immediately- with you, not me.

Politicians are not going to make any changes. They are just all lying gas bags with agendas. Usually lining their own pockets. What we need to do is eliminate wealth from politics. Rich people should not run for office. We need real men, working men, running this country. Toward that end I think before any election there needs to be a tournament. Chop a cord of wood, Dig a trench by hand, throw some hay bales and then to eliminate the real wimps a battle royal match. The top three or four can then tell us why we would want them in charge and we can sort through the crap and pick a leader. Forget Republican and Democrat. Those sissified bastards have never worked a real day of work in their lives. Boot them out and put somebody in there that is really in touch with the people and knows how hard you have to work for a buck. Then we will get something done. I think the career politicians should all be rounded up and shipped off to an island somewhere where they can politic all they want to themselves.

No offense meant but trains are too unreliable in terms of time. Businesses live in a Just In Time inventory structure which doesn't work with most train schedules. Besides, trains are subsidized too; at least they run on diesel.

Alright I usually stay out of these things, but I know a lot about this. The JIT cars that we move are top priority. I only know of a handful of times that these cars haven't made it to the plant on time. When that does happen the railroad pays for the down time of the plant (think $10,000 a minute). The problem would come with a increase in traffic. We are having a hard time moving what we have. If you put another couple hundred trains a day out there you would have gridlock.

As far as subsidizes go, I don't see much government money coming into the rail industry. At least on the freight end of things. NS is building a new intermodel facility in Columbus, OH (where I work) and a new port is being built in Norfolk, VA. This is to handle an increase in container traffic. The idea is to offload the ship to trains and move the containers to Columbus for customs inspection. This will also involve expanding the roadway between Norfolk and Columbus. Mainly making the tunnels through the mountains larger to handle the double stack container trains. The cost of this all together is going to run about 600 million last I heard. The government is kicking in 31 million. Wow. That is the cost of 15 new engines. Not much of a subsidy.

Am I understanding that people are upset with the price of fuel? Why when most people drive extremely fast and fly past me as if I am standing on the side of the road and I drive the over the speed limit a lot. They are in control of how fast and how much fuel they burn. Just after the divorce of 01 - I started to drive a P.O.S. (Piece of Shit) instead of the expensive gas guzzling family hauler SUV. I refuse to line the insides of Exxon/Mobiles pockets just to drive my shinny big SUV with only my ass in the seat. Besides this divorce was rather expensive as we had a child together and the x- was mining for what little money I had as she was unwilling to work for her own money – different topic sorry.

My VW diesel gets 44mpg consistently and can burn renewable bio-diesel. Fuel I can and have made myself. My SUV sits under a tarp attached to the Camp trailer and used only for recreation.

Unfortunately most people are going to rely on the elected officials to fix their personal gluttony issues.

I agree. I have politics in my blood. My grandfather was a senator and lawyer. He was a Democrat in his day. That was when they werent borderline socialists. I WILL hold an office one day. It could be as miniscule as alderman, but I will serve. Politicians need to realize who they work for? I've had my fair share of dealings with congressmen and secretaries. They all think that they are above me. They SHOULD be commoners instead of rich kids looking to better their investments.

My motorcycle gets 35-40 MPG (even at 90+ MPH). Gas prices dont bother me unless I'm filling the Jeep or Jimmy.

Actually based on 4 years of working for Congress and 2 more in DC in general that is why the majority of folks ARE there. I was broke when I worked for Congress based on cost of DC. I had a second job the first year and half I worked there.

But then also remember you see what the media wants you to see, unless you work there you will never really understand.

Not saying there aren't bad folks, because obviously there are, but most folks are working for what they think is best for the country. Unless you give up that day job and go work there for a year or two you will be hard pressed to convince me otherwise.
