My guess is she's got toxoplasmosis. It's a parasite that tries to get from where ever it's at to a cats digestive system. This includes modifying the behavior of the host to be attracted to cats. Rats with T. Gondii will actively seek out cat urine and let themselves be eaten.
One third of the population has a toxoplasma parasite inside their body. That means you know several people whose actions are at least partially controlled by a microscopic parasite trying to find a place to crash.
