Woke up, just now, to the sound of people shouting. Two houses over from us, flames were billowing from the garage and out the windows, and smoke pouring from the other rooms of the house. Everybody got out and is fine. Only a couple minutes later, the Bakersfield fire department arrives.
Boy did these guys put on a show.
They had hoses bearing down on the fire right away, guys with chainsaws cutting holes the roof, the charred garage door soon a heap on the driveway. Before you know it, this fire that was a threat to the whole neighborhood was reduced to paperwork and insurance claims.
I already knew what they did was impressive, and this was probably pretty routine for these guys, but I've never seen it up close. Hats off to all the firefighters and first responders out there.
