Well, after having used a CPAP for the past 6 years or so, I can attest to at least three things:
1.) Get a proper fit while lying erect/supine (i.e., while on your back) at the sleep center when the tech fits you. Also, insist on trying different masks, not all are equal nor do they fit all facial sizes and types!
2.) Make sure to have a humidifier installed (this is easily done like a piggyback module) and check it regularly for mold/mildew when you add the RO/distilled H2O.
3.) If either one of the above fails to work for you then call the sleep center immediately and make an appointment (they shouldn't charge you for this service, but your contractual obligations may vary, see your provider for details) to be refitted with either another mask (they make several, some just nasal, others full face) for size and/or shape.
The main thing to remember is that these exams (polysomnograms) are expensive, as are the CPAP devices, so don't let them try to talk you out of a reexamination of the device as it works with your particular needs. I for example had to try about a dozen different masks before I found one that worked for me, and also had to change pillows several times as well. I hope I helped you guys out with these experiences, but do NOT hesitate to call the techs at the sleep study dept where you got your DME until you are totally satisfied with the results. Good luck, God Bless, and ilbcnu!
Prost!
