OOPS! Need to label my spices.

Sat Apr 29, 2006 9:30 am

I cook a lot so I buy my spices in bulk from a nearby grocery co-op, one of those earth hippie place. Anyway, I put my spices in unlabeled jars. Being a professional cook, I can easily identify them by look and smell.......most of the time. Today I was putting together a batch of chili while watching car racing on tv. Not fully paying attention to what I was doing, I reached for the cumin and grabbed the ground cloves by mistake. Didn't realize the mistake until I had already put a teaspoon or so in the chili!!!! :eek

I was expecting to have to dump the whole batch, but lo and behold, it's not bad! A different taste to be sure, but not too bad. I think a slight touch of it in future batches would be pretty good but certainly as much as this time.

This is a reminder to me to pay close attention to ingredients when I brew tomorrow.
