Wort Evaporation

Tue Mar 20, 2007 5:20 pm

Hey, I am making 2 10 liter brews tonight. This way I can achieve a full boil, however, the wort evaporated down a couple liters in the boil, should I add more water to the mix to make up for this?

You want to try and hit your anticipated gravities, if you need to add water to do this, then add it... or don't and make a stronger beer.

thanks for the quick reply, I'll add the water to top it off..

but I kinda fucked up...

hop additions were supposed to be

.4 oz Norther Brewer (60)
.25 oz Cascade (30)
.5 oz Cascade (15)

but...

I accedentally threw in .5 oz Cascade at 60...
then realized it at 50, and threw in the Northern Brewer...
then put the .25 oz Cascade in at 15...

I hope this doesn't fuck up my pale ale too much...

You will be just fine with what you did. You will be a little short on aroma. If it were mine, I would dry hop with about a half oz. of cascade if you have any left.

I do and I don't as far as extra cascade is concerned...

I'm doing another batch right now...

.25 oz Galena (60)
.25 oz Cascade (30)
.5 oz Cascade (15)

... so I could pull a litle from that...
