cracked grain

Thu Feb 04, 2010 7:51 pm

Hey guys how long can grain sit after its been cracked? I bought a partial grain kit and took a while to build my mash tun. Im ready to go. I read some instructions Charlie has on the web and it said you must use cracked grain with in two weeks of cracking. Mine are 5 weeks old. Should I reorder fresh, or am I ok? Im making a cascade pale ale.

It'll be ok, but obviously, fresher is better.
Good Luck! Let us know how it goes!

It'll be fine. It wont deliver quite the level of flavor or aroma that freshly cracked grains will, but don't worry as long as there's no mold.
