Justin's Mash Problems

I'm just listening to the El Toro show today and I listened to Justin's story about the problems with draining the minimash with interest. Well, I've got a solution for you, my friend, that will make you a perfect lauter tun for AG or minimash.

You need a manifold like this:



Here we've got a piece of 3/8" copper running through a #1 stopper with a piece of stainless braid. The #1 holed stopper fits exactly into the hole in the back of the valve on the bucket. This pic uses a piece of SureScreen keg strainer, but you can also pull the stainless braid from the outside of a toilet supply line hose. You can build this for about $5.

I mashed full AG with this setup for about a year with perfect results. You can certainly do a great minimash with this system. Or even do a full AG for a 5 gallon batch, with no other extra equipment - assuming batch sparge. (If you want help with batch sparging among all your fly sparging buddies, let us know )

There's something unsavory about using toilet parts to make a mash tun. Nothing wrong, of course. Classic homebrew ingenuity. Just kind of...ew.
Sorta like how everyone says in an emergency you can drink the water from the toilet tank (not bowl - that's for the dog).

I saw one of those expose on 60 min or something that said that there is less bacteria in the toilet then on the the average kitchen sink and counter. That is really disgusting.

You use a new one, of course. Actually, this one is an easymasher/surescreen but my current MLT has a toilet line.

I guess Justin got a false bottom, so if anybody else wants this, they can have it. I haven't used it in over a year. Somebody send me a SASE and it's yours.

Don't get rid of it just yet George. Sure Screens are the perfect size to put over the dip tube so that you can dry hop in a Corny without using a hop sack.

Nah, I find that I prefer a big zero minute addition to dryhopping. Less grassy, IMO. Anyway, I'm still willing to pass this on. PM me if you want it.
