From what I've read, I'm inclined to agree with some of the others insofar as what ingredients you are getting in the kit. If there are no specific weights to the flavoring grains, then perhaps you should find another vendor. A good kit will have all of the details printed and enclosed with the kit. It sounds suspicious since you did the recipie twice and got the same results. It sounds like you are doing more than adequate sanitation, and assuming that there is no spurious cross contamination of any kind, then I would suspect the kit. Since you got similar attenuation drop in both batches, I don't think that it is a yeast problem, but perhaps you may want to examine if you think that there is something that you may want to do differently with your yeast. Dry vs. liquid, etc. Maybe culture a starter? I've never had a bad batch from morebeer.com's kits. If all else fails, perhaps give them a whirl. It works for me!
