With this beer being young, the bitterness could be "yeast bite" from the yeast still being in suspension vs. hop bitterness. The "yeast bite" should eventually drop out as the beer naturally clears. What was the recipe or beer you brewed if you don't mind me asking?

I believe it was a red ale kit.... correct me if I'm wrong.

Not sure why it posted twice, I didn't do it for emphasis... :D

A traditional red ale shouldn't be too bitter from the hops, likely yeast bite.

So my smokey porter is a week into fermentation. Gravity is a bit above 1.020. It's coming down but pretty slow. It has nice smokey flavor but I can tell it's still too young. I forgot to measure my og but from calculation it should be 1.060. My fg supposed to be 1.015, not sure if it can go that low. Fermentation temps around 66. I will check back in a week.

Was it an extract batch or did you end up doing all grain? If it's extract, as long as you got the recipe volume, you should have the calculated OG. IF it was all grain, you could have started at anywhere from 1.040-1.065 based on your efficiency and what the estimated efficiency was...
