First Attempt at a recipe or two

Wanted to get some opinions for these two recipes:

Dry Stout:


0.36 lbs. Roasted Barley info
0.59 lbs. British Black Patent info
0.54 lbs. English Chocolate Malt info
4.61 lbs. Liquid Amber Extract info
1.11 lbs. Barley Flaked info
1.47 oz. Goldings (Pellets, 5.00 %AA) boiled 60 min. info
0.51 oz. Goldings (Pellets, 5.00 %AA) boiled 15 min. info
0.50 oz. Goldings (Pellets, 5.00 %AA) boiled 1 min. info
Yeast : WYeast 1084 Irish Ale info

Original Gravity 1.043
Terminal Gravity 1.009
Color 32.40°SRM
Bitterness 37.6 IBU
Alcohol (%volume) 4.5%

.5 lbs. Crystal Malt 40°L info
.5 lbs. American 6-row Pale info
8 lbs. Liquid Light Extract info
1.91 oz. Cascade (Pellets, 5.50 %AA) boiled 60 min. info
0.50 oz. Cascade (Pellets, 5.50 %AA) boiled 15 min. info
0.50 oz. Amarillo (Pellets, 8.50 %AA) boiled 1 min. info
Yeast : White Labs WLP001 California Ale info

Original Gravity 1.062
Terminal Gravity 1.013
Color 9.78 °SRM
Bitterness 50.4 IBU
Alcohol (%volume) 6.5 %

These are extract brews. I am using Beer Tools online Recipe Generator to create. I am looking for good base beers to experiment with. Any and all feed back is welcome.

Hey John,

For the dry stout I wouldn't use amber extract. Go with ultra light from Briess or Alexander. There is no reason to use darker extract -- you will just end up with a higher FG and in a dry stout that ain't what you want.

Thanks Push! I changed it to a light extract and that really didn't change the overall beer much. I was trying to to use that at first but i was having problems getting the color correct...
