Help remind me about steeping grain....

Wed Jan 24, 2007 8:25 am

I am doing a quick brew today, It is APA 2 from B3 and has steeping grain. In the instructions it states to add the grains to a bag and into the TOTAL voulme of water in this case it will be 22 Q. I thought I renember wanting to steep grains in a ratio with warm water, OR is that just for mashing?

Thanks
Tim

Water volume doesn't matter with steeping grains in a bag.

Shoot, the grain/water ratio *inside* the bag is probably pretty close to what you would use for a mash anyway.

i had heard it was a ratio of LBS of grain to gallons of water. so 1 lbs of grain steep in 1 gallon of water.

but i can't say i've really ever stuck to that.

Fill the pot for boil, start the heat, add the grains, pull the grains at 170....
