Extract Brewpub

Thu Jan 04, 2007 5:34 pm

Found this website www.addabrewpub.com. They claim you can get a turnkey setup. You mix the extract in the tanks. Allow 5 days for fermenting and serve 2 days later when the beer is cold in the same self refrigerated tanks.
No brewmaster needed.
They claim to have won 1st place 5 years in a row from who knows where.
Is this beer as good as it is easy.
Would be fun to have behind the bar.
Everyone here drinks Mexican Beer (Corona, Sol, DosXX, Modelo), Miller, and the local Belize beer which is Belikin Beer, Belikin Stout & Lighthouse Lager.

Part of the deal with others I've seen is that you are committed to buying ingredients from them only.

Not sure about this one.

This is pretty much the same type of operation used by the Granite City chain of brewpubs. The difference is that they produce their wort/extract at their own plant somewhere in South Dakota (I think) and send it by tanker truck to their brewpubs.

The stuff is quite drinkable, but not worth going out of your way to find. It is a step above the usual macroswill, but nothing to get excited about.

The owner started the homebrew revolution in 1971 and their malt extract is considered the best in not only the US, but the entire world! Therefore, it has to be good...

I think one of these turn-key all extract brewpubs went in about 40 minutes from here. All accounts, beer's not too good...I'm scared to go try it. But, no one from any of the Mid-Atlantic or East Coast Brew News folks have done it yet...might as well take one for the team as a whole... :?

edit- And holy crap, low and behold, the first testimonial on their "About Us" page is from that very brewpub...

There was a turnkey system about an hour from me for a while I tried it a few times and it was always horrible stuff. I heard they stopped bother after a while so while I suspect the manufacturer makes money on the enterprise I doubt the majority of his customers ever make quality beer or stay in production for too long.

And everyone is saying this -> Stay away from Picadilly's (the place that most recently got their system). Said the beer was horrible and infected with wild yeast but the up shoot was that it was so cold that you couldn't taste much anything! :? But, all reports say the wings and other bar food are smoking! Too bad it's not BYOB!
