Question on Storing Beer

Wed Mar 03, 2010 8:59 pm

I finally bottled my first brew on 1/31/2010. I enjoy it. It is not perfect, but it is something I am proud of for my first voyage. Here is the question. I am ready to begin my second brew and I am interested as summer approaches what the best way is to store the 36-40 remaining beers (that number will go down) for the long haul. I will eventually have what is left of my first brew, plus a second. I bought a refrigerator. Is this the best place to keep my beer as I store it for maybe a year (at least a few bottles of each brew)? What is the best temperature to store it to get long term storage out of it. Assume I don't care about chill haze.
Thanks for your advice!

Would refrigerator 35-40 and stable be a bad thing? What do you mean by cool? The how to brew book didnt really cover the temperature for long term storage.
Thanks

The colder it is, the longer it will keep. Refrigerated is optimal, if you have the space. Failing that, cellar temps (50-60F) are best. Any cool dark place will do (basements are great for this).

35-40 is fine. especially if its your first. if your sanitation wasn't perfect the colder temp will keep any bugs at bay. if you think its clean then celar temp is good 45-55F. even low 60s but colder is better. mostly just a stable temp thats out of the sun.
