Politics and Craft Beer
This week, The Session delves into the Alabama craft beer scene. Brewmaster Craig Shaw of Birmingham's Avondale Brewing Company joins the show to tell us his story of building and running a craft brewery in a state that enforces some of the most restrictive bottling and distribution laws in the nation. He is followed by Representative Joe Hubbard, a Democrat from Montgomery who has been a colorful presence in the discussions from the floor of the State Legislature during their debates over various beer and homebrewing bills.

Good stuff by Not The Brewcaster J, June 06, 2012
I was worried that you guys were just going to rip the Alabama Rep, but was pleasantly surprised at how you guys handled the interview and how he was able to poke a little fun at his own self. Great interview and info all around, cheers!

Nice job boys and girls by OldManKaufman, June 14, 2012
Great job with the Alabama folks. I was prepared to hear you ripping both the rep and brewer but these were professionally done interviews with really good information and a bunch of fun thrown in as well. Although I'm from "The great state of Pennsylvania", I've got a brother in LA (that's Lower Alabama) and my daughter is going to Auburn for an engineering degree so I'm no stranger to the craft beer desert that is Alabama. I'm stoked to give Avondale a try on our next trip to Auburn but I'm bummed that a very reasonable rep is bowing out due to power grabs by some other folks in the legislature. Scott is doing a great job with lining up these shows! Seems like he might have actually worked for NPR at some time in the past. At any rate, a brew day is just not the same without your gang blathering on in my ears, so I'm signing up right now as a PFC. It's pretty ironic that my first legal beer- at 17 years old on an army base in boot camp - was a Colt 45. What the fuck was I thinking?
