Visiting the Bay Area...looking for beer recommendations

Tue Sep 19, 2006 3:31 pm

I'm heading to the Bay Area Sept. 23 - Oct. 1 for business and will be staying in the city. Other than hitting the Toronado (I always go there for the abuse and the Belgians) I was planning on hitting some TBN hangouts I hadn't tried yet like 21st Amendment and Drakes.

Anybody have any other suggestions for must have beer stops?

This thread had some good suggestions, Speakeasy and Rogue Taproom would definately be on my list besides the places you mentioned.

If you want to read my take on the locations I posted this after I got back.

Drakes is not a brewpub. If you plan to go there to drink you will have to go on a Friday between 5pm and 8pm.
And when you are standing in the parking lot of an old converted industrial complex next to a Wal-Mart, behind the Home Depot wondering where in the hell Drakes is at.... you are standing in front of it!

Thanks for the info. regarding Drakes...I didn't know that!

Since I was in the "neighborhood" yesterday I drove up to Santa Rosa and hit Russian River Brewing. I had the sampler and have to say that this is the first brewpub I've ever visited where EVERY beer was simply outstanding!

Great stuff Vinnie!

Definitely hitting the 21A. May give The Magnolia another shot (really disappointed on my last visit). Isn't EJ Phair near the B3 Mothership? May have to hit that as well!

Check out Jupiter over in Berkley. They have great food and good beer, in a hip college atmosphere.
