Website Downtime Heads Up

Tue Jul 18, 2006 2:15 pm

Hey BNer's,

just a quick heads up to you all:

The BN is changing our server from one company to another, so there will most likely be a day or two of downtime this week, which includes the forum and the archives. May also interfere with some e-mail so if you try to get any of us this week and don't hear back by next week, send again.

Then when it's back up I'l probably screw up a bunch of other stuff to make it unpleasant for awhile too.

just a fair warning. hang in there. It's for the better (or so I am told Rolling Eyes )

Cool! So now that you are moving TBN off that hand-me-down TRS-80 or Sinclair or whatever you have been using, we will maybe see less of the "You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while" messages?

I'm still amazed that I can click and type faster than the server can keep up!

That can't do search thing is because of IE7 With IE 6 I don't get that problem... It has to do with an auto refresh upon back or something... Use your tabs [cntl]click.

I don't use IE-anything; just Opera and Firefox and see the same message all the time with either.

Ctrl-click gives me responses in new tabs, but then I'd be closing dozens of tabs at the end of the session. Seems a bit...inefficient.

My usual patter is "View Posts Since Last visit," then view whatever messages, then hit the "the Brewing Forum Network Index" on the page with the message and then back to "View posts since last visit." That last one is the usual one that give me the "you cannot search so soon" thing.

here is what I do... there may be a Firefox setting to eliminate the problem but I doubt it....
I go to the new posts since last visit...
I open each post in a tab (or a handfull at a time)
read post... close tab... next tab/post
lather rinse repeat... I never close the search (new posts) tab and when I am done I just hit F5 to refresh the page and voila I am set no error messages... try it you will like it.
