Pin vs Ball Lock Kegs

Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:46 pm

Hey,

I have pin lock kegs right now, but am thinging of converting to ball lock kegs. My pin kegs have a diameter of 9 inches, and I am just short of being able to fit three kegs inside. But I read that ball lock kegs are 8 inches diameter, and I should be able to fit three kegs in my kegerator if I pull off the switch. This is key since I have a 2 tap draft system and would like to have a reserve keg carbonating while the final keg is fermenting, maybe even eventually so I can lager a beer while serving two.

My main concern is to ensure that the dimensions of a ball lock keg are actually 8 inches before I do the tradeoff.

So... anyone able to throw out the diameter of their ball lock kegs? Any suggestions on what to do with my 4 pin lock kegs? Sell them? Ferment in them?

My ball locks measure 8.5", pin locks 9"

I can fit 4 of either in my upright fridge.
Why don't you just send me those old kegs that you don't want. :D
