Any trouble with Oxyclean????

I recently bought a new package of Oxyclean to clean my carboys. I always soak in warm water overnight and have had great success with this. I opened this tub of Oxyclean and prepared my carboy as usual. The next day when I dumped them, I noticed a white hazy film on the entire area that the water and Oxyclean mixture had been touching. Now, I can not get it to come off. I have used calcium remover, soap scum remover, acid, salt water, new Oxyclean (from another tub) and elbow grease with a carboy brush. Nothing will work. The salt water seemed to help a little, but not good enough to use them. Any ideas about this or suggestions as to how to get it out?????? Help.

I used to get this once in a while and found a vinegar rinse would take it right off. I know you said you tried acid, was it vinegar or something else?

Hmm, I have never had this issue. Maybe a little scum line where the top of the mixture is, but never glass discoloration.

If white vinegar doesn't do it, some bleach.

I had this recently with a bunch of bottles I let soak for a couple of days. A 3-4 minute soak in white vinegar took the stuff right off. Just be sure to rinse really well.

Well I guess a good reason to stay with PBW.

I use the stuff for everything and just let it set for as long as I want. Never a problem with film or anything.

Just finished cleaning a bunch of old bottles in an aluminum pot. It did nothing to the pot and cleaned the gunk out of the bottles as well taking off the labels.

I left Oxycotton in a keg for a week, wait I mean Oxyclean......... and it left like a pitted surface on the inside of it. I will never use that product again. I prefer PBW for the tuff stuff and B-brite for ever day cleaning of brewing stuff.

For the past 6 months I have used Oxy clean on both my carboys and for bottle cleaning. I have had grat luck with it. espacially for bottle label removing. even the foil type lables come off after a day or two. As for the carboys, after racking, I give them a quick blast with a faucet monted jet cleaner. then give em a healthy scoop of Oxiclean and fill them with warm water. Any kruesen line gets totaly eaten away. I dump and rinse well and cap em until time for sanitizing. With the white haze, how long was the soak time and did the water level drop due to evaporation?

I've gotten the white residue line with PBW as well; not from a short soak, but when I've left bottles soaking in it overnight. -Eric
