Promash vs. BeerSmith

Anyone used the little WIZARD for converting All-Grain to Extract in Beersmith, or more importantly, anyone ever done a comparison of an All-Grain vs. Extract version of the same recipe generated by Beersmith's conversion wizard? While not rocket science, it would be a pretty slick little tool if it works reliably. Anyone?

I've used it going both ways for several beers. Always seemed to work pretty well for me. Not exactly the same, but pretty damn close.

Excellent! That's what I was hoping. That would be pretty handy to have.

I use both. I try to use beersmith exclusively, though.

Beersmith has a better inventory/shopping list which is essential for me because I buy everything in bulk.

Like someone said, Beersmith is updated regularly and Brad actually listens to feedback. Promash was updated a few years ago and the next version has been "coming soon" for forever.

I've compared the calculations between the two a lot, and for the most part, they're the same.

How long did it take you all to figure out the programs? I just downloaded the Beersmith eval and I'm basically scratching my head here. Are there any good tutorials online?

I've been using ProMash for about 4 years and really like it. I have it very well corelated with my brewing system and it's a great tool for helping me predict what my beers will end up like. I've used it to scale a few batches for commercial systems with awesome results.

I've used Promash for about 2 years, but due to the fact that an update will probably not be out anytime soon (due to the grave illness of Jeff's wife) I am going to look again at Beersmith and Beertools.

I use Qbrew. It's an open source recipe calculator. it doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of Promash, but it meets my needs.
