I obviously haven't tested it with the fans yet. It probably could get down to lager ferm temps with no problem. The problem is that I live in Arizona - so even keeping the bottom zone at 40 is a strech - when the garage gets well into the 90s. Today, the garage was 85, and the ferm chamber was 75 - even without the fans on (I don't have the insulation on the extreme left and extreme right of the "floor" yet - until I work out he details of the taps. The insulation is just as good as what is in the bottom part - so I'm pretty confident of its efficiency.
I probably will stick to ales until October when I might actually have to warm it up. Last winter my garage got down to 50.

how do you heat the top portion while keeping the bottom cold?
I don't anticipate much of a problem with keeping the ferm zone warm. The next temp control I buy (for the upper zone) WILL be two stage - just in case. I hate to line the pockets of my electric company just because I want to save $40 up front. Last year I used a small reptile pad. There are some bottles in there right now - but for the most part there are kegs. No issue getting them in and out - especially because I notched the center member (I said member) so it can be removed.
I'm really looking forward to a BrewDroid or two. Then I can log how much the thing is turning on (in addition to doing the multiple temp rests).
