What is the diameter of the probe? Any idea if it is a Type K or J thermocouple?

You can hit them with a propane torch and it will dry out the water. Just don't get it to hot or you will ruin it, This trick only works once or twice on a probe then they usually go tits up.

you can bake the probe in the oven for a half hour at 350. just keep the plug end out of the door where its cool.

Instead of dropping them in the mash, just add a compression fitting to the side of your MLT or HLT, then the wire stays dry and the probe is in the liquid.

I occasionally stick the probes in the oven even when they seem to be fine just to make sure everything is dry.
