HLT Filler

Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:18 am

Damn it, I'm lazy.

The other day as I'm watching the sight glass on my HLT fill, waiting to run and turn the hose off, I remembered I had a spare, brand new dishwasher solenoid valve lying around doing nothing to earn its keep.

So I slapped the valve on the output of my water filter and stuck a float switch in the HLT. Voila, push-button fillage.

Nice work, Push. You are the envy of all lazy homebrewers, like myself. Featured on www.wortomatic.com, I suppose?

LOL - Not yet. I'm doing the Binford 6100 v 1.5 - when it's done I'll post an update.

Nothing too radical, auto filling HLT & auto sparge. :D

LOL - good question. When you do radical Halloween pneumatics you have all kinds of solenoids, pistons and triggers lying around.

Just ask Sunken Bier.

Cheers,

Here's how I imagine Push's brew day:

8:00 am Push the button to fill the HLT and heat the mash water
8:05 am Have breakfast with the family
9:00 am Pour grains into mash tun and push button to transfer water from HLT to mash tun and refill HLT and heat water.
9:05 am grab the paper and head for the bathroom
10:15 am make sure mash is finished and wort has been pumped into kettle
10:20 am build fire in BBQ pit
    11:00 am grill some steaks
    11:45 am first hop addition
    12:30 pm second hop addition
12:35 pm clean up lunch dishes
12:45 pm Make sure pumps are chilling the wort with the Mr Malty whirlpool wort chiller
1:00 pm Put kids down for nap
    1:30 pm pitch yeast
    2:00 - 4:00 pm clean up
5:00 pm work on next year's Christmas lights
6:00 pm Dinner with the family
8:00 pm Story time with the kids
9:00 pm Double fisted drinking til midnight

Life is good. :D
