Brew kettles

Ok guys I am on the hunt for a bigger kettle I keep seeing stainless for around 200 with shipping for 10 to 15 gallon. I can get a heavy duty aluminum 20 gallon for 85 at the local resturant supply. Here is a link to it http://tinyurl.com/2a8smc

B3 has a 40qt SS kettle for $125. The same kettle with a spigot and thermometer port is $195, still less than your $200 for the plan SS kettles you've been seeing.

If you are happy with a plain, no-spigot kettle then that Al one you link to looks like a good one. I sometimes wish I had an Al 40qt kettle instead of the SS ones I have because the Al heats up so much faster and seems to use less propane.

I use aluminum pots all the time both at work (I'm a cook) and for my brewing. For most purposed I prefer aluminum over stainless because they heat quicker and more evenly. I would only use a stainless steel pot for brewing if it had a clad bottom (aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel), but then you are talking $200+ pots again. Get the aluminum.

You should be able to find a Keg that is being disposed of at a scrap yard. Id bet you could get it for less than $40. The cutting and modifying is easier than you would think. I would go that route way before I would lay down major bucks to get a kettle. Of course I am a cheap SOB, YMMV

Check out your local agri supply store. The one near me has great prices on aluminum kettles.

100qt for 95.00

John great link but that is the same price pretty much as the one I linked. That same page you linked they had my 80 qt for the same price. Bug I was hoping to hear from you. What you said was what I was thinking. Plus I can add the ball valves to the aluminum pot easier than I can a keggle. I had an offer for a cut keg but I would have shipping cost. For no shipping cost and better use of turkey fryer btu's and less work I think I am going to just get me the 80 qt aluminum pot.
