I'll add about 2 lbs of rice hulls myself for a 5 gal batch. What yeast are you using?

I used WLP300, and got solid results. But after hearing Bub rave about Wyeast 3068 I'll probably give that a shot with my next one.

And I only used about 1/2lb of rice hulls in a 5 gal batch and my batch sparge went fine.

I've used the WL300 in the past but now I'm going to have to try the 3068 just to see what happens.

We brewed ours today and reduced the rice hulls to 4# for 10 gallons. My system really likes to compact the grain bed if I don't have an appropriate amount of filter media and watch the speed on the pump. Batch sparged as well with great efficiency.

We pitched a huge slurry of #3068 and it's already cranking like there's no tomorrow. 8)

I finished the Roggen and capped. It had a FG of 1.013 and was somewhat sweet. Is this in line with what everyone else had ?

I am going to brew this too in the next couple of days. I won't have the exact recipie but I am going to be as close as I can be.
My question is.
Do you all think this is a drink fresh and fast beer? I am brewing it for a comp and trying to judge when I should brew it. This week or next. My entry deadline is august 17th I think.
What do you all think? I have never had this style before. My roggen bier I brew will be my first.

Yeah it is pretty much a brew and drink fresh beer. At least it had better be. I'm brewing it again this coming weekend for a comp with about the same deadline as yours. 3068 is the perfect yeast for this recipe.

Yeah I am stuck with 3056. I tried getting 3068 a month or so ago for some heffs. I used the 3638 then for one of the Heffs and really liked it. I wanted to get it again for this brew.
