Star-San Storing

Fri Apr 27, 2007 4:31 am

I just got a quick question. Will it hurt anything if I've stored about 4-5 gallons of a Star-San solution in a corny for over a month?

Nah. If it is still clear and the pH is sufficently low, it will be good pretty much forever.

I think that Star-San'll be alright, but what about the stainless corny?

should be just fine. If you think about it the soda that used to be in there had more acid in it than that dulited star san is going to have.

I don't know the official word on it, but I've been using the same corny for StarSan storage for about a year and don't see any damage.

Then again I never see the damage in a water heater until the leak starts!

From my understanding, StarSan is fine for storing in corneys, bleach bad.

I always keep a corny keg of StarSan around all the time. I hit it with a couple pounds of CO2 now and then so I can dispense some with a picnic tap whenever I want. Whenever I need a sanitized keg to fill, I just pressure transfer the starsan to another clean keg and then use the former starsan keg for the beer. This way I always have a sanitized, purged keg ready for use.

Bug,

I was heading down that path, and I just got this weird feeling that somehow long contact time with the acid and stainless would be problematic. However, it sounds like y'all've done fine with it. So I'm just gonna stop worrying and get to killing some bacteria.
