They are probably the most common type of fermentor used in Australia. Everyone from beginning Kit and Kilo brewers to award winning AG types.
Of course, some people use carboys, buckets or conicals, but as far as I am aware most of us are using the drums.
They seal airtight via a screw down lid with an O'ring, they have a spigot (removable) in the bottom, you can get em anywhere from 12 to 80litres in capacity, they're light, have handles, they dont break, they are mostly see through, I've never had to clean mine with anything more abrasive than a dishcloth, in a pinch you can transfer via CO2 pressure and they are less than half the price of a carboy.
