Jeez I wish I would have thought of those ideas. I just cut my hose to length and got one of my rugby buddies to pull one way while I pulled the other.

I set my vise so it would just be wider than the plastic hose and not quite as wide as the frayed edges of the braid. I put the end of the braided hose on the side of the vise jaws and used some pliars to grab/pull the plastic hose through the vise jaws and the braid would loosly bunch/hang up on the other side of the jaws and the hose slid right out very easily.

Am I wrong, or will draining you mash/sparge tun too fast decrease your efficiency.

Too fast a runoff will decrease extraction and increase th e
possibility of a stuck mash, which occurs when the grain bed collapses on itself and plugs itself up.
This is especially important if you have a high percentage of huskless grain in the mash. - Ken Schwarts 'Converting All-Grain Recipes to
Extract / Partial Mash'

Is this right?

Wrong.

I don't know. I just like to make one word answers. I think it would be no big drop in efficiency.

If you are going with a stainless steel braid I would recommend a braid removed from a ¾ inch ID hot water supply line. I used a 1-inch to ½ inch brass reducer (big nut 1 inch in diameter with a threaded ½ inch diameter hole) to secure my ball valve and it is a perfect fit to clamp the braid to. I can batch sparge 30 lbs of grain in less than 15 minutes. I used a pneumatic die grinder to cut off the ends, it provides clean cut with no sharp ends. I pushed the braid opposite of the direction I was going to take it off to expand the braid then I pulled and pushed (to expand braid) took just a couple of minutes to get it off the hose.
A man has ony 2 things in life his word and his balls or is that 3 things??
