Getting back in the Saddle

Tue Oct 29, 2013 2:52 pm

Damn I missed you ugly bastards.

Seriously though. Coming back to brewing here in a couple weeks. I hit some real hard times in 2010 and abruptly fell off the face of the brewing map. I tried to brew again twice at the end of 2011 and because finances weren’t back in order, the ole lady was really pissed.

So…taking inventory over the next few days to see what I need to replace, been listening to some archives of BN shows again, and trying to figure out what I want to break the silence with in terms of brewing. I’d like to get at least one ale in while I have the temp for it still, before hitting up the lagers (what I enjoyed the most before).

Any new materials since 2010 that shouldn’t be missed?

Welcome back. I'm guessing things are better with the finances then?

You've got some catching up to do...so get brewing!

Thanks!

Yeah, The finances are much more stable and in order now. I'm going tonight after work to get some PBW and Star San so I can start cleaning up what I can salvage. Maybe some keg reconditioning kits too.

I'm thinking of starting off with an ESB or British IPA. Love them English Ales.

For the price of just a few kits you can buy the rings in bulk from McMaster-Carr. I don't remember what I spent on them but 10 large lid rings & 100 each of the inside/outside post rings was about the same as a few kits, maybe a half dozen or so.

I saw this on the Homebrewfinds website and you can use the BN link to Amazon to buy. The rings are a little ways down the page.

Good tips. I'll see what my LHBS can do first. I maintain 6 kegs (well, I did anyway) so it may be worth it.
