Black Ale Style Questions?

Sat Aug 24, 2013 6:40 pm

I recently brewed a session black IPA, but the hops didn't come through like I wanted. Its 4% very dark brown/ nearly black. It has the bitterness of a dry stout (35-40 IBU range) but without the roasted barley flavors. I used Briess Midnight Wheat to color it and get virtually no roasted flavors. I think it's good but was wondering what BJCP category I should enter it into to receive some feedback. Dry Stout? American Stout? American Brown Ale? Specialty? Any suggestions?

I would look at the BJCP style guidelines to research and make a decision on what catagory it fits best into.
