An arduino based single vessel style brewery controller

Thu Jun 07, 2012 1:14 am

Hi guys,
for the last 6 months I have been working on an arduino based braumeister style controller. I have designed a shield for it and put together a program. With a constructed unit you will be able to control a heating element and a pump in a similar manner to the braumeister. I have added some more programmable steps (up to 9) and a hop addition alarms(up to 8 ). The whole design is open source and I don't want it used for commercial gain, here are some pics

I have put together a ZIP file for the project, it contains instruction manuals on the build and using the unit, also the code for the arduino and the schematic and board design in eagle format.

I'm sharing this with you with the hope that some of you get together and build them.

Aw man... I did the same exact thing, and then discovered that the BrewTroller guys did it way better...

not for a single vessel system like a braumeister 8), don't get me wrong the brewtroller is a great bit of kit but its not really designed for a single vessel, it's a bit of an overkill and mucking around with the code to make it work on a braumeister setup. This has been designed to mimic the braumeister controller and a bit more, I never plan on making it control a 3 vessel brewery. With this whole setup costing me about $150, add a pump, some cheap pots and a heating element and your looking at a DIY braumeister for about $600.

IIRC, the latest versions of the BrewTroller software do support setups like the braumeister...

Unbelievable work Matho! Really brilliant!

You offer a complete solution to brewing a single-vessel brewery. The BrewTroller has the "boil kettle as mash" (unless they've changed it recently) or something, but as you mentioned, lots of mucking about to get it to work.

I'd love to build this thing RIGHT NOW, but I fear it's a bit above my knowledge and skills. I am trying to learn all I can though. Also, to make it work with a March 120v pump seems to require some significant changes. The 240v outlets we have here in the US are 4-wire, and from what I can tell that won't work with the pump.

Keep up the great work! BTW, are you an electrical engineer or similar?
