I'm a little behind on the Session lately, so I'm just getting to this discussion. I think the subscription model is a reasonable solution. I think the current shows should be available for at least a month, and there should be a rotating set of free shows from the archive. I think selling DVDs of the archives in the store is a great idea. It provides revenue for the BN AND takes load off the servers. Sounds win-win to me.

The download limit is fine! Come back and do it again another day. My 10 cents is to have everyone register to download archives and give them 10 free downloads and the option to receive email from the advertisers. After that, join or listen live. I get a lot of entertainment listening to the BN show rub shoulders with some of the best brewers in the world. Putting entertainment aside, I have processed a lot of information that have made me a better brewer... with better beer! Post a question on the forum and you get answers from Master Brewers! If you don't learn anything while listening to the BN, you probably couldn't find your ass with two hands anyway. I support the businesses that support the BN army. If you are unwilling or unable to support the BN then you probably not spending money buying brewing gear either. The ads are Great and I don't mind listening to them ever. It kind of gives me time to soak up what I just heard or carry on with a biological function. I will up my dues to $60 because it is worth it to me and may other listeners. The cold hard reality is if their was a better source than the BN for brewing knowledge out there, I would be there!

I thank the BN for coming a long way on a shoe string budget! I applaud you!

Firstly I'd like to commend the BN for the amount of content it provides in its archives.

As an Australian, listening live isn't always convenient, the session starts at around 9am Monday & the BN isn't usually the first thing I think about on a weekday, but it does help the Monday-itis.

As a student, I'm unable to afford an ongoing donation to the BN as funds are tight. Worst case, I'll set up a $2 donation & cancel it once I have all the archives. This doesn't help new members though, where a topic like sanitation, kegging & temperature control might be of interest. Locking these archives away has two possible outcomes;

1) The topics covered in the archives need to be rehashed regularly, to provide new members with content suitable & useful to them, meanwhile frustrating long term members who have heard the same topic every few months.

2) The BN loses potential new members by not providing easy access to suitable content (essentially limiting the target audience to advanced brewers & long time listeners).

The other loss will be listeners directed here from other brewing forums.

I would support the following options;
1) DVD archives, with the cost covering the cost of media, postage & a cheap pint for Justin
2) Download limits, similar to the current situation, maybe limiting content to 32hrs/day
3) Torrent hosted archives, packaged for 2-3 months at a time.

The download limit might be able to be circumvented, but I doubt it would be worth the hassle.

I'm not all that techy, but I thought there was a "tracker" with torrents that keeps track of computers seeding the files. Wouldn't the hits on the tracker provide you with the metrics? I think there are some torrent clients designed to track users via IP & a unique id to assist in providing evidence in piracy lawsuits.

I'm fucked.
I had ALL podcast downloaded until some weeks ago, then they all mysteriously disappeared from my computer. They seems to be in iTunes, but the files are empty, not to be found. So I had to delete all and tried to download them again but "503 Service Unavailable" is the only message.
I'm paying (donating) 10$ a month, but that does not seem to help me a bit.
Any good suggestions?

code will tell you to ease up on it. Only get a couple at a time. Don't be greedy. You can't possibly listen to all of them in a day, anyway.
Dont get code mad. :jnj

The panic has left me. So it's just a matter of time. Good. I'll download some each day and try to have a backup.
Thanks

DVD !?! What is this 1998.

Seriously the overhead of disc's, shipping and the time burning would easily eat up any margin. I think everyone here is vaguely aware of how a computer works.
