Re: Janet's Brown strikes again

So, I'm about to brew a brown this weekend for my first time and I couldn't think of a better choice than Janet's Brown Ale. I've heard so many great things about this one, I have to try it myself! I see there are a couple different versions of this recipe floating around. Can someone post the imperial version of it on here? Rumor has it, it was in Zymurgy at one point, but haven't been able to locate it....

Thanks for the help - cheers!

Here it is.

Still haven't brewed any version of Janet's Brown Ale. I hope to brew the Imperial version soon.

You are all very welcome. I had a pint of the Imperial version I brewed for the 2010 NHC last night and, like always, was amazed with the flavor. I can see why we all love it. It's just plain f'ing tasty.

Tasty

I am in OZ and have not had an American brown before. After
all the talk on the BN I thought I would give it a go.

I missed my pre boil gravity and had to boil longer and then adjust the hops.
Which is a bit advanced for my level of brewing (I need to be planned)

In the end I had 15L of beer.

I loved the first taste. I let it mature for 6 weeks before trying. This is hard.
I had rebrewed it again before even trying the first batch.
I am now looking to brew it again in 2 weeks as I am almost out of the second batch.

Thanks Tasty.

I absolutely hate this beer! If i ever brewed another behated beer, this would be in my hating list of hated beer.
If in the year 2560, the president of the world asked me to suggest a beer to brew and then drink, i would hate to brew him/her/it a Tasty's Janet's Brown Ale. Because irony is funny. Especially in the future.

Yep, now that i made you angry, now trade out every word with the letters 'hate' or 'hating' for 'love'. (Seriously, do it, you'll really change your opinion of me afterwards)

I just tried this beer out of the fermenter (after 7 days). It wasn't as bitter as I expected and I even undershot on the gravity (1.063). How much bitterness do mash hops actually contribute? I followed the hop bill to a T. The only thing I can think of is that I used leaf hops for the mash hopping. Not sure how that would matter though. It still tastes great! I'm just reacting to the comments about its bitterness. Also, the finishing gravity was right on (1.015). I can't wait to taste it with the dry hopping.
