I like the jackass on that link that keeps saying you don't need to clean before you sanitize with StarSan and quotes Charlie Talley saying that StarSan does have some cleaning power. If you listen to the ENTIRE interview he keeps coming back to the fact that you cannot sanitize what is not clean. If there is any crud, no matter how small, that the StarSan fails to clean, you have failed to sanitize, period. In the interview he is insistent that "one step" cleaner/sanitizers simply don't exist. Sure, you can clean with a dual purpose product but then you need to sanitize in a second step after you are certain the thing is clean. I hate it when people cherry pick an interview and claim that the speaker says something that they clearly don't want you to take away as the "point".
Sure, if something is really close to clean, StarSan will probably work 100% but it certainly is not a replacement for something like PBW. Good link in general though.

Ok, so for some crazy reason my Costco claims they don't carry oxiclean; pretty sure sams here does but I would need to use someone elses membership. Bug posted about using oxi-magic, where do you get it and what is the cost? Online I find it for $10/7lbs which is more than the $15/15lbs at sams. Also there was stuff at the dollar store, what cost/qty? I am trying to price it out against PBW...the Red Devil "TSP/90" costs the same as PBW so the savings need to come from the oxyclean (my Ace only seems to carry 1lb bags for $5).

Very cool - thanks for the advice. I am going to pick up some tonight and try cleaning a few new kegs that I have coming in.

Quick question - what is the dosage for using OxiClean Free? Is it the same as PBW (1-2 oz in 5 gallons of warm water)?

Thanks!

I think the proper dosage for PBW is .75-1 oz per gallon, not per 5. I use 5-6 tablespoons per 5 gallons which is about .55oz per scoop so call it about 3oz maybe. That is probably still on the low side but I am cheap.
