I use it in a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler and it probably takes about 1.5 hours to heat. I like it because it has the protective SS protective cover so it won't melt the plastic. I use an Intermatic timer rated for 1800W like this:

i started brewing beer in august, quickly discovered that i wasn't scoring bonus points with the swmbo when doing it in the kitchen so i moved to the garage some weeks a ago.

used some stuff i found to create a simple shelf on wheels under the equipment. i think the only thing i bought was the thermostat i use to heat the water in the hlt.

its not much, but it sure beats messing around in the kitchen.

when i brew, i start by milling the grains in my homemade grain mill. it is made out of a former hydrolic jack and some 10x60 steel. i had to buy the bearings though.

then i move the, now grained up, cooler to the mashing position

add the strike water. i use this thermostat that knows how to cool and heat. i use it for my fermentation chamber also, which is an old fridge. when i brew, i just set a timer so the water is hot in advance.

and into the boiler which is 30 liter keg with elements in it.

once boiling then i use a hop bag so the hops are not clogging the bottom of the boiler when i'm draining it after boil.

chilled and in a bucket

so far i've run some 6 batches through this.

so it happens that i have two 50 liter stainless pots and one 50 liter keg. i just might make another version out of those!

G'day guys,

just upgraded to march pump and an 18 gallon kettle, the brewstand has stayed the same but instead of bucketing from the HLT to the Tun it's now gravity fed and underlet to the Tun, pump for recirc/sparge and to the kettle.
