Sometimes I feel like I get that aroma as well when I drink a dark roasty beer that has been hopped with citrusy American hops. B/c of this, I am not a huge fan of american hopped stouts and porters. I feel that the dark roasted grains and citrusy hops can sometimes clash if the balance is off (too hopped for aroma). Depending on the age of the beer when tasted, it could be combination of oxidation and the clash of citrusy hops with dark grains.

I never picked this up in a citrusy C-hopped beer. Citrus would probably serve to cover up any olive character.

Olive grenade! I love it!

I do not think that it is citrusy hops and dark malts. I know what hops are in this beer I smell it in and it is not american citrusy hops. I'll have to do some research and come up with the recipe. I just can not find it right this moment. I remember seeing it, but have recently lost it.

I'll post it soon.

maybe you don't know the difference between green olive and wienery. perhaps you should smell a jar of olives and a wiener to confirm. :nutters:

BooBoo,

Are you saying there is a difference between a can of Vienna Sausages and a jar of manizilla olives?

We could put them together and make a "Full Sack Sour Ale"

I have gotten this aroma from all the taps of a local bar. No matter what they poured, Newcastle, Oberon, Guiness, Labatts.

I have also encountered that aroma from using Kolsch yeast in really young beers made with it.

I have no idea what it comes from.
