What if the intruders shoot your dogs? Most home invaders are deterred by dogs bc they give away the sneak attack. But there have been plenty of cases of dogs being shot by intruders during a home invasion. You may have zero fear but that doesn't mean there's a zero chance of it happening. I don't fear anyone breaking into my home but if it does I'm prepared to give them the last surprise of their life. Dogs lessen the odds but gun ownership isn't about the odds. It's about the freak occurrences that are not likely to happen but still might.

i guess i wouldn't know....never even shot one before.

Dick's the same. But they put food on the table and criminals at bay. Granted the second part is the important one. When danger is seconds away, the cops are only minutes away. But it's still nice to have some game meat during the hunting seasons too. Also a form of insurance. If society and/or economy collapses I'm infinitely better off then all you folks without guns.

What about hunting?

No, it's an extremely small amount of people who would attempt such a thing. And I have a small chance of being a victim. But if I do end up being one of the unlucky few then I have a much smaller chance of becoming a statistic. Odds have nothing to do with it. Well except for the odds of a trained, armed man successfully defending himself being infinitely higher than an unarmed man. It's just life insurance. Don't expect to use it. Just be prepared in case you do.

A few years ago I lived in the worst crack neighborhood in town (I wondered why the apartment was listed so cheap)

I had a 12 gauge and a rottweiler and everyone knew it - consequently, I NEVER had a problem

Many of my neighbor's places got broken into but not mine

Gun control doesn't make people more safe, it makes them less safe
