Dip Tube

Wed Jul 29, 2009 5:03 pm

I am using a stainless steel ball valve. I want to add a dip tube.

Is there any place to buy a s/s dip tube?

Can I use copper for the dip tube? Not sure how copper and s/s will react to each other.

Thanks

If you're refering to a 'pick-up' tube, you can use copper. I have also used the more rigid chrome plated copper, water supply line also. You should be able to get a short length at the hardware store. Cut off the length you need and bend with tube bender.

In the BrewStrong show on metals in brewing, Palmer recommended against copper being in contact with beer after fermentation begins. He mentioned copper as it is a catalyst for staling reactions. Copper during the boils was a good thing.
