Re: Why do we send food aid to North Korea?

I wouldn't get too worked up about any foreign aid we offer countries. Generally, the US government pays US farms and businesses to grow/manufacture, transport, and deliver the food & aid, so in effect it's really a make-work program for American businesses. Monsanto makes a fortune from this. If the US cut off all foreign aid I could guarantee you they'd face far more pressure from inside this country from big monied corporate interest than they ever would from the international community. It'd probably put a lot of Americans out of work, too.

Canada?

I agree, Canada is pretty great, whenever the United States has to do some hard work/invade countries/protect human rights/feed poor people, they are always nice enough to bring us some Sodas and Sandwiches (maybe poutine, depending on location) on the way home from hockey/curling practice.

Canada (UN) is usually the first one there HELPING people. We just glide on over there on our fancy curling shows.

Interesting. Maybe we could get that production to go to feeding Americans though. If we're going to dole out charity it might as well be for our own people before it is for third world countries that have no chance for improvement anyway.

My roommate throughout college was half Korean and his mom made some bomb ass kimchi. Her bulgogi was awesome too. I love Korean food.

i had a korean roomate in college too. His mom would always send him back to us with a bucket of kimchee and a hugh tray of bulgolgi all the time. I'd have to say that Korean food is my favorite. I want to go to korea just to eat.

Korean moms are awesome like that. His mom actually had a food complex. She was abandoned as a child and the only thing she got to eat was what she could get out of dumpsters. So when she got older and married a GI she came back to the states and kept six, yes six, fridge/freezer units full of food in the house. Every time we'd visit or she'd come down to see us we would literally get sick from all the food she made us eat. It was never a question of "would you like more." It was simply "here's more, eat it."
