I didn't understand MM new idea.... but mine is the same as Brad's - with the exception that it is not soldered. The threaded piece stays threaded in all the time. The other three pieces (4" tube, elbow, and 3/4" tube) are soldered. I can remove mine for cleaning.

I got that impression, but I guess I still don't understand how you got them to stay in there by tweaking em with a screw driver.

besides, I need help soldering...I'm terrible at it, lol

and I'm not seeing 4 pieces in your setup Mylo. I see a threaded piece, attached to that is the elbow and then the 4" piece. Where's the 3/4" piece?

My plan is to make mine just like yours, but to use threaded pieces to conect the 4" piece to the elbow.

Did you see my solders? They are ugly as hell, but they work. You should see my sparge arm and my whirlpool chiller - very ugly, but functional.

your solders are golden compared to mine. Mine look like I sneezed solder all over them. They were black as shit too until I sanded them up and boiled them.

and, I thought the pictures in this thread were Mylo's and not yours, Brad.

I think I'm set now though..off to home depot I go

The 3/4" piece is hidden between the elbow and the threaded fitting. You can avoid it if you use what is called a "street elbow" (yo yo yo). The street elbow has one side on it that fits INTO another fitting, instead of OVER a pipe. However, if you use the street ell then you won't be able to flare it out - because the copper too hard.

Here, I found a old pic showing a copper scrubbie on the part in question:

I got a compression fitting the goes from the coupler and reduces down to the compression fitting. That way i just put a piece of copper tubing in the compression fitting and tighten the nut. I just bent the copper tubing to where I wanted it to pick up and I can move it whenever to wherever I want. Also, no soldering! Just some teflon tape. I can also take apart every piece and clean it no problem.
For someone like me who doesn't have welding stuff, it's a good option.
